THE BASICS
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Freewill Labs LLC ("Freewill," "we," "us"). By downloading, installing, or using the Freewill iOS app or accessing downloadfreewill.app (collectively, the "Service"), you agree to these Terms.
If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
WHAT FREEWILL IS
Freewill is a social confidence app grounded in evidence-based principles from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure therapy, neuroplasticity, and habit stacking. We deliver one daily challenge to help you keep practicing stepping outside your shell.
Important: Freewill is a wellness and self-improvement tool. It is not medical care, therapy, or a replacement for professional mental health treatment. If you're experiencing severe anxiety, depression, or thoughts of self-harm, please contact a licensed mental health professional or call 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) in the US.
YOUR ACCOUNT
You must be at least 13 years old to use Freewill. If you're under 18, you confirm a parent or guardian has reviewed these Terms.
You're responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. Notify us immediately at tkessel@downloadfreewill.app if you suspect unauthorized access.
SUBSCRIPTIONS & BILLING
Plans
Freewill Pro is $5.99/month or $39.99/year. It includes every daily challenge, unlimited shuffles, streak protection, and full access to the Cove: posting, commenting, Snaps, joining rooms and adding friends. New accounts start with a 7-day free trial, and Pro then renews at the price above unless you cancel.
Freewill Lite is free forever: one warm-up challenge each day, every crab stage you earned, and read-only access to the Cove.
How billing works
All subscriptions are processed by Apple via the App Store. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions auto-renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
Free trial
If we offer a free trial, you can cancel anytime before it ends to avoid being charged. We'll send a reminder before billing begins.
Cancellation & refunds
You can cancel your subscription anytime through your Apple ID Settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Refund requests are handled by Apple per their refund policy.
WHAT YOU CAN AND CAN'T DO
You agree not to:
- Use Freewill for anything illegal, harmful, or harassing
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract our source code
- Share your subscription with people outside your household
- Scrape, copy, or redistribute our content without permission
- Use the app to record other people without their consent during challenges
- Pretend to be someone else or misrepresent yourself
THE COVE
The Cove is Freewill's community, where you can share progress, post, comment, send Snaps, join rooms and add friends. By using it, you agree to these community rules on top of the rest of these Terms.
The Cove is a peer community, not a support service. Other members are not professionals, and nobody watches posts in real time. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, US) or your local emergency number. Don't rely on the Cove.
COMMUNITY RULES
We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. You agree not to post, send or share anything that:
- Harasses, bullies, threatens, shames or mocks anyone, including for their anxiety
- Is hateful or discriminatory toward any person or group
- Is sexual, sexually suggestive, or involves minors in any way
- Is violent or graphic, or encourages self-harm, suicide or disordered eating
- Shares someone else's private information, photos or messages without their consent
- Impersonates someone, or misleads people about who you are
- Is spam, advertising, or a scheme to sell something
- Is illegal, or encourages illegal activity
You must be at least 13 to use the Cove. Don't try to meet up with members you met in the Cove who are under 18.
REPORTING, BLOCKING AND MODERATION
You can report any post, comment or member, and block anyone, from inside the app. Blocking hides that person's content from you right away. We review reports within 24 hours. We may remove content, hide it automatically when several people report it, and suspend or permanently remove accounts that break these rules, without notice. Removing your access to the Cove does not refund a subscription.
YOUR CONTENT
You own what you post in the Cove and what you write in Freewill. When you post in the Cove, you give us a worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, display and share that content inside Freewill, to the people your settings allow, for as long as it stays posted. You are responsible for what you post. If you send us feedback or support messages, you grant us a license to use them to operate and improve Freewill. We won't publish your journal or identifiable personal details.
YOUR DATA CHOICES
By using Freewill, you agree to the data collection and use described in our Privacy Policy. Journal backup, and usage stats in the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland, are switches in Settings under Your data.
OUR CONTENT
The Freewill name, logo, hermit crab mascot, challenge content, designs, and all underlying technology are owned by Freewill Labs LLC and protected by copyright and other applicable laws. You get a limited, personal, non-transferable license to use the app for its intended purpose. Nothing else.
DISCLAIMERS
Freewill is provided "as is." We work hard to make it useful and reliable, but we don't guarantee specific outcomes. Social confidence is personal. Your mileage may vary, and your effort matters more than any app.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
All challenges are suggestions. You choose whether to attempt them, and you do so voluntarily and at your own risk. Freewill Labs LLC is not responsible for the outcomes of actions you take in the real world.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Freewill Labs LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, or goodwill arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or $50, whichever is greater.
INDEMNIFICATION
You agree to defend and indemnify Freewill Labs LLC and its founders against claims arising from your misuse of the Service or violation of these Terms.
TERMINATION
You can stop using Freewill anytime by deleting your account in Settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. Provisions that should survive (ownership, disclaimers, liability limits) will continue to apply after termination.
CHANGES TO THESE TERMS
We may update these Terms occasionally. Material changes will be announced in-app or by email, and the "Last updated" date above will change. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
GOVERNING LAW
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts of Tennessee, except where applicable law requires otherwise.
